The St.Paul's Occasional Choir is made up of people who enjoy singing music from the rich "cathedral" tradition of the Anglican Church but who do not want the on-going, weekly commitment of the Regular Choir. The Occasional Choir sings three or four times a year. The annual highlight is always the Christmas Carol Service. This is a traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols and is held on the Sunday before Christmas.
Works which have been performed by
the choir include sections of Handel's Messiah, Stanford's Te Deum
in C, O Where Shall Wisdom be Found by William Boyce, Stainer's Crucifixion, Sumsion's They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships and Haydn's Insanae et Vanae Curae. Settings of the canticles for Evensong (Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) we have sung include Stanford in G, Brewer in D, Walmisley in D minor and Stainer in Bb.
